WATERTOWN — Fuel spilled after a tractor-trailer containing 11,000 gallons overturned on Route 11.
Joseph D. Plummer, director of the Jefferson County Office of Fire and Emergency Management, said that a Christman Fuel tractor-trailer was northbound in the town of Watertown when it overturned.
Plummer said it is estimated that about 500 gallons spilled.
There are no environmental concerns, Plummer said. Responders were able to contain the small spill.
Plummer said the tank didn’t rip open and the fuel was leaking out of hatches on top and crews latched the hatches on the top of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle got himself out and was taken to Samaritan Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to Plummer.
When the truck rolled over, it took down some power and cable lines, Plummer said.
He said crews pumped the fuel from the tractor-trailer to other trucks.
Of the multiple departments on the scene, the state Department of Environmental Conservation was there to monitor environmental aspects.
As of 1 p.m. Route 11 remained closed from Route 232 to County Route 64.
